Latin name	Sandalum album
Family	Santalaceae
Method of extraction	Steam distillation from coarsely powdered heartwood and the main roots of the tree.
Principal Constituents	Santalenes, santalols.
Origin	Native to tropical Asia especially Eastern India. The Indian government has placed certain restrictions on the harvesting of sandalwood which has forced prices up. Other sources of Sandalwood now include Indonesia and New Caledonia.
Aroma	Sweet, warm, woody, lingering.
Colour	Pale yellow to yellow
