Borage originated from the Middle East but is now a widely grown herb. It is sometimes known as ‘beebread’ since bees are attracted to it. The ancients believed that borage was a plant that brought happiness to the melancholic!

To obtain the oil, the dark brown borage seeds are cold pressed. Borage oil is an extremely rich source of the essential fatty acid GLA (gamma linolenic acid) — it contains 16-23 per cent as compared with evening primrose oil which contains approximately 9 per cent. Borage oil has almost no odour and therefore will not mask essential oils in an aromatherapy blend.

It is an excellent addition to a facial oil.

ideal for dry, coloured or permed hair.

Borage oil is usually added to a blend in up to a 10 percent dilution.
